A George III style Irish silver dish ring with a blue glass liner, pierced and chased in a classical manner. This piece was made in Dublin in 1926 by West & Son.

The dish ring originated in the 18th century and is a piece perculiar to Ireland, not being made in England or the Continent at this time.  It went out of fashion circa 1800, but became back in vogue again circa 1890 when it was made in Ireland and England. It was originally intended to sit on the dining table, without a liner, in order to place a hot serving platter on, thus not burning the mahogany table.
