The Townhouse: Lady Powerscourt’s Disappearing Dress

Writer Shireen Marcus and illustrator Tarsila Krüse transport the reader back to the eighteenth century with their charming children’s picture book.

It’s 1774 and in the Townhouse the children are fast asleep in the Nursery. Lady Powerscourt is in her dressing room, anxiously awaiting the delivery of her beautiful new ballgown. What could go wrong?

The star of the book, the Townhouse, on 59 South William Street, is home to the Wingfield family - Lord and Lady Powerscourt, their six children, Mrs Pudding, the cook, Mrs Chamberpot, the housekeeper, Rusty, the dog, and Bully, the horse.

Fast forward to the twenty first century, still on South William Street, the Townhouse is now home to the most exquisite designers and artists, and filled with restaurants, shops and galleries. The beautiful eighteenth century rooms are still there for you to visit, admire and enjoy just as Lord and Lady Powerscourt intended. Use your imagination and walk through the pages of the story.

Shireen Marcus, commenting on the launch of the book:

I’ve been doing tours of the Townhouse for many years and I’ve always imagined Lady Powerscourt and her family living there. To be given the opportunity to create this beautiful children’s book with Tarsila, who brought my characters to life, is a dream come true’.

This stunning and educational children’s book will be launched just in time for Christmas on the 6th of December and will be available to purchase from Article, on the first floor of the Powerscourt Centre for just €9.99.
